A total of 8 Miatas, 15 UMN members and 1 very well behaved pooch enjoyed some beautiful top down weather for the annual tour to the Braeside Church Supper.
This was the first time for Dave & Lynne Pearen to lead a tour and we must say THANKS to Steve for his Tour Leader’s Course, David for his Google Mapping Course as well as sweeps Terry Glancy and Donann Jeffrey.
We met at the Beer Store parking lot in Kanata at 11:30 and enjoyed a meandering drive to Pakenham, stopping for a short break to enjoy the rapids and view of the Five Arches Bridge. Continuing on some twisty and hilly roads past White Lake, over the Madawaska to Burnstown and on to Renfrew for a bio break at a busy Tim Hortons. Exiting TIm’s, we worked our way to Hwy 17 heading west for a few km’s, then north to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Ottawa River and over to Quebec. Regional Road 1, better known as the River Road had us heading back east on super smooth blacktop (sure puts Ottawa’s roads to shame) to Braeside and Our Lady of Perpetual Care Church. Marshalls greeted us with reserved parking, which was the start of royal treatment by parishioners.
Our plates were piled high with delicious BBQ chicken, then we helped ourselves to a dozen different salads. Seated at our reserved table, everyone devoured this first course, then very friendly servers provided generous portions of all you could eat home-made desserts. One gluttonous UMN member, who shall remain un-named to prevent embarrassment, but who goes by the initials BT, polished off three huge pieces of pie, down from last year’s record of five . Way to go Barry!
Suffice to say, nobody went home hungry and all agreed to put this tour on the list for next year.
THANK YOU to Joanne L/M for providing an outline of last year’s tour to Braeside and to David Waung for posting pictures.
